Southern Cross Environmental Services specialises in Non-Destructive Digging (NDD), a highly efficient and safe excavation technique. Also known as Soft Excavation or Hydro-Excavation, NDD involves:
- Using high-pressure water to break up soil and debris.
- Employing powerful vacuum systems to remove material into a debris tank.
- Ensuring safe excavation around sensitive areas like root systems and underground utilities.
Benefits of non-destructive digging
NDD provides numerous benefits, especially when working in delicate or congested underground areas.
It significantly lowers the risk of damaging underground utilities such as gas lines, water pipes, electrical cables, and communication networks. By using NDD, projects can progress smoothly without the setbacks typically associated with traditional excavation methods.
- Protects underground utilities from damage
- Environmentally friendly with minimal disruption to the site
- Cost-effective by reducing the need for extensive manual labour
- Quieter operation for noise-sensitive areas or during night hours
Our NDD Process
Our process involves using state-of-the-art Combination Jet/Vacuum Trucks. This equipment applies pressurised water to loosen the surrounding material, which is then swiftly removed by vacuum to expose underground assets without causing damage.
This method is adaptable to various soil types and conditions, allowing us to work with precision and care.
Our trucks are equipped with large debris tanks and substantial water capacity, enabling us to operate onsite for extended periods without interruption. This efficiency translates into quicker, cleaner, and more precise vacuum excavation, requiring less backfill and labour, and reducing environmental impact.
Our Vacuum truck fleet
Southern Cross Environmental Services boasts access to one of the largest privately owned fleet of vacuum excavation trucks in the country ranging from 3,000L to 20,000L in capacity.
All operators are accredited and experienced with major clients. Our vehicles carry spill kits, fire extinguishers and first aid kits, as well as site relevant SWMS, risk assessments and safety data sheets.
